A man accused of fatally shooting his wife and critically wounding her mother in Connecticut earlier this week has been arrested, officials said Wednesday morning.

Christopher Raye, 45, of New Britain, was taken into custody by police late Tuesday night after he was spotted walking on the Berlin Turnpike, according to a city spokesperson, per the Stamford Advocate.

The deadly shooting occurred in the early hours of Monday, police said. Authorities responded to a residence on Prospect Street around 3 a.m. for reports of a possible domestic violence incident. Upon arrival, officers located a female victim unresponsive with apparent gunshot wounds.

The 30-year-old woman, later identified as Raye’s wife, Bryana Raye, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second female victim, Bryana’s mother, was shot in the shoulder, reported local station WTNH, citing the arrest warrant. She was taken to a hospital and remained in critical condition as of Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

The suspect fled the scene but was arrested on Tuesday. He’s since been charged with murder, first-degree assault, two counts of risk of injury, illegal discharge of a firearm, criminal possession of a firearm and criminal use of a weapon.

Raye appeared in court on Wednesday, when a judge set his bond at $1 million, NBC Connecticut reported.

Bryana Raye, who worked as a nurse at the Hospital for Special Care, is being remembered as a devoted mother of two young children who “would give you the shirt off her back,” said Janell Covington, a longtime friend of the victim.
