North Ayrshire Council responded to almost 3,000 calls as a result of Storm Éowyn.

Winds of 100mph battered the Ayrshire coast on Friday, January 24 during the storm which prompted a red weather warning from the Met Office.

Most calls related to repairs for fencing and roofing from council tenants but a large number also concerned fallen trees and other storm debris on the region’s roads.

More than 500 calls were made on Friday while a further 1,300 were received on Monday, January 27 and almost 1,000 on Tuesday, January 28.

The council have thanked staff for their “outstanding” response to the storm and how they assisted residents with their enquiries.

A North Ayrshire Council spokesperson said: “On Friday, we received more than 500 calls relating to Storm Éowyn.

“The number of calls we received on Monday about incidents linked to the storm reached more than 1,300 and on Tuesday we dealt with almost 1,000 calls.

“The calls mainly related to repairs regarding fencing and roofing for council tenants as well as reports of fallen trees and storm debris on the roads.

“We would like to thank the customer services team and all of our call handlers for the outstanding job they did of assisting residents in what were very challenging circumstances for everyone.”
