BECKLEY, W.Va. -In Raleigh County a new hiking option is opened on the Piney Creek Preserve.

The new Cranberry Creek Outlook Trail is a part of the 614-acre Piney Creek Preserve.

Owned by the WV Land Trust in partnership with the City of Beckley, the land was acquired in 2019, and work began on the new Cranberry Creek Outlook Trail in 2022,

Thanks to a grant from the Beckley Area Foundation and the work of the Academy of Careers and Technology, the outlook trail has benches and other resources for guests to enjoy.

The Director for Outdoor and Economic Development with Beckley Outdoors says this nearly quarter of a mile trail is mostly flat and can be a great place for someone looking to get out in nature.

“I mean it is a tremendous resource for our community. Like I said, 614-acre green space that has been annexed in the city. It is within minutes of downtown and when you come down in here it feels like an oasis, an escape from urban environment and it is just so needed for the health and wellbeing of our residents and just a tremendous asset from residents and visitors alike,” said Mitch Lehman, Director for Outdoor and Economic Development with Beckley Outdoors.

Lehman thanks the City of Beckley as well as WV Land Trust for their time and dedication and says you can follow the Beckley Outdoors Facebook page for updates on the trail heads.
