As Scotland braces for more cold weather, many of us are turning up our heating up, but at times, it can feel like it takes ages for the room to get warm. Also, there’s the added concern of rising energy prices.
That’s why a plumber from Your Plumber has offered their top tip to help you “channel the warmth” into your room faster, potentially saving you valuable time and money. To enhance your heating’s efficiency, the expert first recommends removing any obstructions from your radiators. If you have bulky furniture such as sofas in front of them, these could be absorbing your heat.
To “channel the warmth into the room”, the plumber suggests: “put shelves above any radiators to stop wasted hot air rising.” They’ve also provided a simple trick you can try, which is to “cover a thin sheet of card with tinfoil and place it behind your radiators.”.
This straightforward home hack will “reflect the heat back into the room” making it warm up quicker and stay heated longer. It’s also important to bleed your radiators to get “rid of air pockets”. To determine if bleeding is required, touch parts of each radiator to ensure it heats up evenly, not just at the bottom.
Mark Ingram from Engineering Real Results (ERR) has given homeowners a warning about the cold days ahead: “As time goes on and the temperatures get cooler the demand will only get higher and people may find they have to wait days for an engineer to become available to fix their problem.”
He shared a DIY tip for dealing with cold radiators, saying: “If when you touch all of the radiators you notice any cold spots, you might need to bleed air out of the system, which is an easy job people can do themselves.” He also issued a cautionary note: “With bigger concerns, you should always seek advice from a registered Gas Safe engineer.”
