AUSTIN, Texas — A rare Steve McQueen tribute Jaguar XKSS that was stolen last month has been recovered in North Austin.
The West Lake Police Department said the car was reported stolen on Dec. 2, 2024. Its theft was widely reported on social media and in car publications, which generated several leads as to where it might be.
On Monday, an officer following up on one of those leads discovered “critical information” and gathered enough information for a search warrant, police said.
Late in the afternoon on Tuesday, West Lake Hills police, along with the Austin Police Department, executed a search warrant at a storage facility in North Austin. Inside the unit, officers found the “nearly intact” Jaguar, along with other stolen items.
“This investigation required the dedication of our patrol officers, detectives, lieutenant and administrative staff, all of whom worked diligently to piece together the information that led to the search warrant,” said West Lake Hills Police Chief Scott Gerdes. “The successful recovery of this vehicle is a testament to the commitment of our department and the strong collaboration with the multiple local agencies like the Austin Police Department, Travis County Sheriff’s Office and Pflugerville Police Department.”
The owner of the car, Matthew Briggs, expressed his appreciation.
“I am incredibly grateful to all the officers and detectives that worked on my case,” Briggs said. “Their attention and dedication to finding my car was impressive and truly appreciated.”
Gerdes reminded residents to take precautions to protect their property, including locking their vehicles, securing valuables and considering investing in a home security system.
The investigation remains ongoing and police did not provide any information on a suspect or suspects. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the West Lake Hills Police Department at 512-327-1195.
