The incident happened in the 14200 block of FM 2769, just west of Bullick Hollow Road near Lake Travis.

AUSTIN, Texas — Travis County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) deputies shot and killed a man who was allegedly holding a woman at gunpoint in a neighborhood near Lake Travis on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident happened in the 14200 block of FM 2769, just west of Bullick Hollow Road.

TCSO said deputies were called to the scene at 4:17 p.m. after a call from a man who was out of state saying his father was holding his mother at gunpoint.

When deputies arrived, they heard a woman screaming, TCSO said.

They entered and found an elderly couple. The man was holding a gun to the woman’s head.

According to the sheriff’s office, the man refused to drop the gun, and a deputy fired his weapon in order to save the woman.

The man was killed in the shooting. The woman was not injured, and no deputies were injured during the incident.

Per protocol, the deputy who fired will be placed on administrative leave while the shooting is under investigation.

The Texas Rangers are assisting with the investigation.
