Parents-to-be have many big decisions to make before welcoming their child into the world. Hospital choice, a gender reveal, or whether to breast-feed may be high on the list of things to make up their mind about.

Another major responsibility is what to name your baby. From traditional names to more unique monikers, budding mums and dads will have their own personal preference – but what about names that end up sounding rude?

One woman took to Reddit to share her experience of “the worst baby name she’s ever seen”.

Sharing a photo of the little girl’s name – AnaLee – the woman wrote: “At first glance my friends didn’t notice anything wrong, but that’s when the pronunciation hit me.

“This poor baby’s name is going to be pronounced “anally” so many times in her life… I bet someone will be going by “Ana” as soon as she’s old enough to be made fun of by her peers.”

The comments came in thick and fast from people agreeing that the name mind end up being a burden on the child.

One penned: “I have a student with the same name spelled Analy. At least it’s with one L.”

Another chimed in: “I’m sure that’s what the parents were going for, Anna Lee. But say it fast and you’re going to definitely have some kid pick up on the similarity”.

A third said: “like saying analee is pretty but its such an awful name when you think about how its written. Anal – ee.”

Others didn’t think the name was that bad, though. They said the name, or variants of it, were actually very common, and so for that reason, the girl might get an easier ride than people might think.

“I’ve seen worse and I thought it’d be pronounced “Anna Lee” not “Anally”,” one user asserted.

Another reasoned: “I’ve seen Annaleigh and Anna Leigh before, so I’d naturally just pronounce it like that. I’ve never heard anyone mispronounce it or attempt to make fun of it.

“I wouldn’t put it past immature kids, but I think the majority of people wouldn’t be trolls about it.”

A third agreed: “Annalee and Analee have both been common names for the last 100 years, at least. It’s not really a tragedy.”
