Celebrity chef Tom Kerridge has revealed a straightforward meal he enjoys making at home – and it uses just three ingredients.

The 51-year-old culinary star divulged to Men’s Health Magazine that his go-to homemade dinner involves an air fryer and is based around just new potatoes, chicken pieces, and broccoli.

Tom, a judge on the Great British Menu, shared insights into his family life, noting: “There may be one evening a week that I’m back in time to do tea for my son.

“It’s very simple, [so something like] new potatoes, some chicken pieces and broccoli that’s been roasted in an air fryer.”

He believes it’s important for his son not just to experience exotic cuisines, saying: “He can’t just grow up all the time learning about Peruvian cuisine or the different cooking methods that you can do with coals.”

The ingredients in Tom’s meal are not only straightforward but also nutritious. Good Food mentions that cooking potatoes with their skins helps preserve fibre and essential nutrients such as potassium, magnesium, zinc, and iron, reports Gloucestershire Live.

Meanwhile, chicken is lauded for being a lean source of protein, and Healthline touts the numerous health benefits of broccoli, from providing vitamins and minerals to bolstering the immune system.

Tom, who has shed a whopping 12 stone over the years, maintains a healthy lifestyle by frequenting the gym and enjoying a diverse diet. He opened up about his typical food choices with Men’s Health, indicating that lunchtime often involves salads or protein-centric meals.

Despite having a busy and “chaotic” schedule, Tom emphasises the importance of occasionally slowing down to enjoy something as fundamental yet satisfying as a meal prepared with just a few wholesome ingredients.

“It might be a packet of pork scratchings and a bottle of water from a garage because I’m driving somewhere,” he added. The Great British Menu star managed to shed the pounds through various methods.

Initially, he embraced swimming and has now turned his attention to pumping iron at the gym. Moreover, the chef made a switch from unhealthy habits to healthier ones, cutting back on booze and adopting “a dopamine diet”.

“So that was all lower carb and using higher proteins and good quality fruit and vegetables,” he explained to Reach PLC. “That then helps release dopamine levels, that make you feel happy about what you’re eating.”

But for Tom, the most crucial dietary decision is to eat “proper food”.

By this, he means “not ultra-processed, the highest quality that you can afford”. “Eat vegetables and eat protein, and cook them nicely, that’s the best way, just a balanced and complete diet using proper produce,” he concluded.
