A woman who came across an enormous chip in a pack of McCain oven chips has been amusingly compensated by the well-known frozen food brand.

Chloe Cockett turned to TikTok to share her tale, having been invited to the McCain headquarters in Scarborough, North Yorkshire.

“How a massive chip led to me visiting McCain HQ,” she captioned her post. In a sequence of snaps, Chloe started with the Instagram picture that sparked off her extraordinary trip, showing a chip that was approximately two inches longer than her hand.

After tagging McCain in her story and jokingly asking, “That is one huge chip. Do I win a Ninja Air Fryer for finding the largest chip?” McCain replied, declining her suggestion but offering an alternate prize instead. “No, but we’ll send you a McCain souvenir,” they commented, reposting her story.

The plot thickened when McCain asked for her address to post their gift. Realising how close she lived to their office, Chloe suggested she come pick it up herself, which the company happily allowed.

Before long, she found herself at the headquarters, where McCain’s media team proposed creating content from her unusual experience. Agreeing to this, Chloe received a goodie bag, the contents of which she later revealed in her video – including three £4 vouchers for McCain products, a roasting tray, and chip-themed clips ideal for sealing open bags of McCain chips.

“Adulting at it’s finest,” she declared excitedly as she showcased her haul.

In response to a social media post that went viral, one TikTok user was impressed, commenting: “Wow fair play you can almost get three bags of chips with those vouchers!” Another saw the funny side and jested: “Fuming. Just ate a massive McCain chip after five minutes of talking about how big it was. I could’ve had this too!!

A third individual expressed their own annoyance, saying: “I’ve had one that long before – never thought to tell them! Go you!” While a fourth remarked with a chuckle: “I mean we’ve all had a large chip in our life.”

Chloe herself replied to the chain of comments with a touch of humour, stating: “But we’ve not all thought to tell McCain!:

McCain themselves jumped on the bandwagon, celebrating the story on their Instagram account with the comment: “Chip chip hurray to Chloe. A promise is a promise! Hope you loved your goody bag.”

Curiosity arose among their followers, with one inquiring, “What do I have to do?” to which McCain answered light-heartedly: “Our kindness giveaways have no criteria, simply delight us.”
