AUSTIN, Texas — If you received a million-dollar bill from Penn Credit on behalf of the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority (CTRMA), it could be a mistake.
Viewers reached out to KVUE, saying they received bills for over $1 million from Penn Credit Corporation on behalf of the CTMRA.
One person received a bill for over $112 million for just a few late tolls, and another for over $124 million.
CTRMA wrote in a statement, “We were informed of this issue last week by Penn Credit Corporation, our third-party collection agency responsible for recovering past-due accounts. We had been awaiting further information to ensure accurate reporting to our customers.”
The agency also said it learned that a formatting error in the collection details of customer letters occurred across Penn Credit’s portfolio. While the balance at the top of the letters was correct, the supporting detail was not.
CTRMA said Penn Credit promptly corrected the account details, reprinted and mailed out the updated versions.
CTRMA added, “A letter is being drafted by our back-office provider, Cofiroute, for distribution in the coming days to alert our customers that were impacted by this error (customers who have unpaid tolls that are 91+ days past due). We have also posted an alert on our website and on our social channels.”
Customers are encouraged to contact Penn Credit directly with any questions.
