Two people have been taken to hospital after being rescued from a fire at a block of flats in a Scots town.

Emergency crews scrambled to the scene at Leyland Road in the Bathgate area this morning, Thursday, January 30, at around 7:21am.

Two casualties were rescued from the first floor flat by firefighters and handed into the care of the ambulance service. There condition remains unknown at this stage.

An image from the scene shows a number of stationary police cars and ambulances on the residential street.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 7.21am on Thursday, 30 January, to reports of a dwelling fire on Leyland Road, Bathgate.

“Three appliances were mobilised to the scene where firefighters extinguished a fire affecting the first floor of a block of flats.

“Two casualties were rescued and handed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service. Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
