A family has been left devastated after a teenager was found dead at a school. South Wales Police have initiated an inquiry into the death of Conor Slade, though they are not treating as suspicious reports the Mirror.

Questions arise as to why the 13-year-old was on the Melin Primary School grounds in Neath, South Wales, outside of primary school age. His aunt, Rebecca Morgan, expressed her sorrow on Facebook, stating: “If love could have saved him he would be here forever!”

She also mentioned the significant impact his loss has had, saying: “On behalf of my sister Louise we all just want to say a huge thank you for all your love and support. I never knew a community could be so heartbroken.

“Connor have really left a huge hole in a lot of people’s lives! He was a fun loving out going cheeky little chap! He has sooo many friends left behind and we really do send our love out to each and everyone of them.

“Please just remember him as the wicked boy he was. If love could have saved him he would be here forever! But it’s only goodbye for now – Forever13.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up by a grieving aunt following the sudden loss of her nephew. In the description, she said: “As you can imagine for her and all of his friends and family we are heart broken.

“I am posting this fund me page for any help we can raise to help towards his funeral cost to give him the best send off possible without my sister and Connor’s father having worry about costs. I want this to be the least of their worries and be able to grieve him. We appreciate anything that can be donated. Thank you. Connor Slade – Forever13.”

Danielle Harris, acting headteacher at Melin Primary School, addressed the tragedy in a letter to parents and guardians, announcing the school’s reopening and the availability of support services. She said: “We want to inform you that Melin Primary School (infant and junior sites) will reopen tomorrow (Thursday 30th January) following a tragic incident that occurred on the school grounds in the early hours of this morning.

“We understand that recent events have been distressing, and we want to assure you that the wellbeing of our students, staff and wider school community remains our top priority. Support services will be available at the school to assist anyone in need. If your child requires additional support please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this difficult time.”

A spokesperson for Neath Port Talbot Council expressed their deep sorrow, stating: “We are extremely saddened to hear this tragic news and our thoughts go out to the family, South Wales Police officers are currently investigating and the council will offer any possible assistance.”
