Wanted man Mathias Kvistgaarden showed he’s unfazed by the prospect of becoming Celtic‘s record transfer after he flashed his goal-grabbing ability for Brondby.
The 22-year-old is the Premiership champions’ No.1 target to replace departed Kyogo and he found the net with a powerful header on Thursday afternoon during his side’s win over FC Dallas in a warm-weather friendly in the Algarve. He leaped high in the air and smashed home – as his aerial ability belies his 5ft 8in height. The Danish side want £10m-plus for their talisman if he is to depart before Monday’s deadline with Celtic in talks over a player they have monitored closely over the past two years.
And any deal for Kvistgaarden could even smash the fee set by Brendan Rodgers’ side when they landed Arne Engels for £11m from Augsburg back in August. The Denmark U21 forward – a former team-mate of Matt O’Riley – has been watched by a clutch of clubs and increased his value by netting 14 goals in 22 appearances.
Celtic have landed Jota and agreed a pre-contract for Kieran Tierney, however, the departures of Kyogo, Alex Valle and the likely exit of Luis Palma has Rodgers and Co in prime position to act before the deadline closes on Monday night. Celtic have made a new striker a priority target.
Rodgers was effusive in his praise of Adam Idah after his brace against Aston Villa, The Irishman ended a barren run and the Celtic boss reckons it’s a starting point to return to form. He said: “Those were two big goals for him. Actually, how we created the goals were very good. His movement into the box, he’s made a couple of runs and then he’s had to adjust and make a great finish. The second one’s a great team goal. He is where he should be in the box for the squared pass and make the finish. I thought he was a handful all night. That’ll be good for his confidence.”
