BOONE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – A coal miner died after injuries suffered Wednesday morning at a mine in Boone County, West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey said in a release.
Steven Fields, 55, of Chauncey, West Virginia, passed away after the accident at Progress Surface Mine in Twilight, West Virginia.
Morrisey released the following statement:
“I’m deeply saddened to hear about the death of one of our brave coal miners, Steven Fields. Steven tragically passed away after an accident at the Progress Surface Mine in Twilight, WV. All West Virginians should keep Steven’s family and loved ones in our prayers.
“Our miners are some of the hardest-working, humble, and courageous people in our state. They are truly the backbone of West Virginia. We’re deeply indebted to these brave men and women and continue to pray for their safety.”
The West Virginia Office of Miners’ Health, Safety, and Training was at the scene and will be conducting an investigation.
