A housekeeping position with the Royal Family is offering a lower wage compared to a similar role at a three-star Premier Inn, making the hotel chain a potentially more attractive option for job seekers. King Charles is currently seeking a housekeeper for the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh.

The job involves maintaining the historic residence, but it pays just £12.60 per hour—less than the £13.39 hourly rate offered at the London Kew Bridge Premier Inn.

Additionally, the Premier Inn position offers 20 more hours per week, making it a more financially rewarding opportunity. Meanwhile, the Royal Family’s housekeeping role requires a 7am start with shifts scheduled throughout the week, from Monday to Sunday. According to What’s The Jam, housekeepers may also be expected to travel to other royal residences across the UK.
