Dave Matthews has bowed out of performances at the FireAid benefit concert and the MusiCares Person of the Year benefit gala amid a family emergency, the band announced Wednesday.
“Due to a critical illness in the family, Dave Matthews is unfortunately unable to perform at the FireAid and MusiCares benefits this week,” the Dave Matthews Band Instagram account posted, with no further comment.
Matthews was slated to perform alongside John Mayer for the first time, and the singer voiced his support in a post.
“Sending all my love to Dave, who will be there in spirit with me at @fireaidla,” Mayer wrote on his Instagram story.
The musician was also going to perform at MusiCares’ 2025 Persons of the Year benefit on Friday, honoring the Grateful Dead. Performances by Za Brown, Dead & Company, John Mayer, Dwight Yoakam, Mick Fleetwood, Sammy Hagar and a host of others are scheduled for the event at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
The FireAid concert on Thursday will feature the likes of Billie Eilish, Jelly Roll, Joni Mitchell, Sting and dozens of others and is to take place at two venues, the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, and the Kia Forum.
The benefit will help fund recovery for victims of the recent wildfires burning in and around Los Angeles that have killed nearly 30 people. Two of those fires are in their third week, having destroyed more than 14,000 structures and displaced tens of thousands of people.
