This year’s installment of New York’s Shakespeare in the Park will be a true family affair for Lupita Nyong’o as the Oscar winner’s baby brother will be starring alongside her in the production.
The Public Theater, which produces the annual show, announced Thursday that Junior Nyong’o is among the star-studded cast of “Twelfth Night.”
Emmy Award winners Peter Dinklage and Sandra Oh, as well as Tony winner Jesse Tyler Ferguson, will also star in Saheem Ali‘s revival of Shakespeare’s classic romantic comedy about mistaken identities.
Junior, who sometimes goes by Peter, will portray the role of Sebastian — the twin brother of Viola, who his sister will play. It marks the first time the two siblings will star onstage together. Lupita was announced to lead the forthcoming production of Free Shakespeare in the Park last July.
“Twelfth Night,” which also features Broadway alums Khris Davis, Daphne Rubin-Vega and Bill Camp, will serve as the main attraction at the Delacorte Theater when it reopens in August after two years of renovations.
Junior Nyong’o previously starred in a college production of the beloved play as a student at UC San Diego.
Junior had an early brush with fame when he became a viral sensation at the 2014 Academy Awards after photobombing a selfie that host Ellen DeGeneres took from the audience. He and his sister were pictured alongside Bradley Cooper, Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence, Jared Leto, Channing Tatum, Julia Roberts, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
“He lives life in an exclamation point… he upstaged me… he’s quite the performer,” Lupita said of her brother during an appearance on “Ellen” days after winning the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for “12 Years a Slave.”
