BLUEFIELD, W.Va. -In Mercer County, in Bluefield, the Tamarack Foundation has partnered with the Creative Community of Bluefield to bring new opportunities to local artists.

The group of 10 are hoping to continue growth in Bluefield by providing areas with artwork of different forms with the $10,000 grant.

Ripple is an “artist-led community and economic development pilot program for artists and their communities, designed to help communities create a shared vision of collaboration for developing public art and supporting working artists at the local level by connection artists with other businesses,” based on a flyer from the Tamarack Foundation.

One of the co-owners of the Bluefield Merchants is a part of the group and says this is a great opportunity for local artists.

“I think that we are in a beautiful city, one of the most beautiful parts of America. So, some of these buildings, maybe have a mural or two. Maybe spruce something up or, you know, bring arts in this community, is a wonderful thing. There is often said that there’s not enough to do around here, but this could be something that could even lead to, future projects and something that will last for a very long time,” said JP Marinus, Co-Owner of Bluefield Merchants.

For those interested in the project, you can register for a brainstorming session happening tonight, January 30, 2025, here.
