A teenage girl has been charged over the death of a flatbed truck driver who passed away in a three vehicle crash on a Scots road.
The 18-year-old was involved in the collision on the A725 in Lanarkshire, near to Coatbridge, on Thursday, July 18, 2024. Police Scotland said she was driving an HGV.
Viorel Ciucu, who was driving a Ford Transit flatbed, died in the crash, which also involved a Mini Cooper. The 50-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
The occupants of the other vehicles were checked over at the scene. The crash happened at around 11.15am on the day in question, on the Shawhead flyover, at the junction with the A8 eastbound slip road.
Police Scotland said today that the 18-year-old woman had been charged in connection with the fatal three vehicle crash. A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
Prosecutors from the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service will examine the report from Police Scotland and decide whether or not the teenager should be prosecuted over the crash.
A JustGiving page was set up by his heartbroken wife, Veronica, after his death. Over £4,000 was raised in the memory of the driver, who was understood to be living in Renfrew, Renfrewshire.
The fundraiser described Viorel Ciucu as “a loving husband and father” and said “he was also a friend to many and a cherished work colleague”.
It added: “On Thursday morning of 18th July he was involved in a tragic road traffic accident at the Shawhead Flyover Coatbridge and sadly passed away. The unexpected loss of Viorel has shocked and saddened everyone who knew him, especially us, his family.
“This page has been set-up to help raise much needed funds that will be used to support our family in the short-term whilst we come to terms with our loss, make funeral arrangements, and plan for life thereafter without Viorel.
“All and any donations are gratefully received and will be used responsibly in our time of need. With heartfelt thanks from Veronica, Cristian, Marian & Jasmina Ciucu.”
