Three people have been injured after a flat burst into flames in West Lothian.

The incident took place around 7.10am on Thursday, January 30.

A quiet residential street in Bathgate – Leyland Road – was rocked by the ordeal when residents awoke to flames and smoke.

Scottish Fire and Rescue chiefs said three appliances with up to 15 firefighters were dispatched to the scene to extinguish the blaze.

They also confirmed that there were “three casualties” following the incident.

Police Scotland said this included a 31-year old man who was taken to St John’s Hospital for treatment.

Video footage from the scene shows a flat on Leyland Road with flames apparently leaping from a window. A neighbour, who lived beneath the flat, took the terrifying footage.

She can be heard saying: “There’s fire going through the window!”

Fire engines can also be seen filling the residential street with hoses covering the local’s front garden.

Another clip shows glass plates and mugs crashing into the street from an upstairs flat. Leyland Road and the resident’s garden are littered with fragments of glass shards.
