AUSTIN, Texas — The weekend is upon us and, as always, there are a ton of things happening in the Austin area! From Lunar New Year celebrations to laugh-out-loud comedy shows, there’s no shortage of fun activities happening over the next few days.
Here’s a breakdown of just some of the events you can attend this weekend.
Lunar New Year celebrations
Lunar New Year celebrations kicked off on Wednesday, ringing in the Year of the Snake. But the fun continues through this weekend with at least two big events.
First, on Saturday, Austin Beerworks (ABW) will ring in the Lunar New Year with an event at its Sprinkle Valley location on Springdale Road. The fun starts around 1 p.m. with a lion and dragon dance. Kaiju Cut and Sew is hosting a mahjong room, and there will be numerous food vendors, ABW Cantina specials like vegetable Thai potstickers and wonton nachos. The brewery will also be debuting its latest brew, Fierce Benevolence, a fruit tea-infused sour ale made in collaboration with Kaiju Cut and Sew.
Then on Sunday, The Paper + Craft Pantry – also located on Springdale Road – will host its 4th Annual Lunar New Year Festival on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will feature traditional lion dances, a vendor market highlighting small Asian-owned businesses., bilingual book readings, face painting and more.
Star of Texas Tattoo Convention
Want this weekend to leave a permanent mark? From Friday through Sunday, the Palmer Events Center will host the 22th Anniversary Star of Texas Tattoo Art Revival. The event will feature dozens of tattoo artists, daily live entertainment and tattoo contests.
Presale tickets are available for $21 for a one-day pass and $51 for a full weekend pass, and tickets will also be available at the door for $25 and $60, respectively. Children 12 and under get in free with an adult.
When: Doors open to the public at noon on Friday, 11 a.m. on Saturday and noon on Sunday

See some big names in comedy
If you’re looking for a laugh this weekend, some big names in comedy will be stopping in Austin
Kumail Nanjiani’s “Doing This Again” tour will stop at the Paramount Theatre Thursday and Friday nights. While tickets for Nanjiani’s Thursday show are sold out, tickets are still available for his show on Friday.
Meanwhile, Kevin Hart has three shows this weekend as part of his “Acting My Age” tour. Tickets are still available for Hart’s Friday, Saturday and Sunday shows at Bass Concert Hall
