(InvestigateTV) — More young people are struggling with their mental health, especially boys and young men who may not open up about their struggles as easily as girls.
The Anxiety and Depression Association of America estimates nearly one in 10 men experience some form of depression or anxiety, but less than half seek treatment.
According to the Walker Center, mental health issues can be difficult to spot due to how men experience mental health.
It goes on to say men tend to deal with their symptoms externally, many times, through hyper-focusing on work, alcohol, or romantic partners. Whereas women tend to focus inward when dealing with mental health challenges.
When a youth services group saw rates of depression increase among boys, it created a specialized program designed to help them open up about their emotions.
