Aldi has just dropped a “unique” new sparkling wine that is already backed by a popular wine expert – and it costs under £7 a bottle.
With the weather still a bit cold and dreary, many of us are craving the taste of summer and sunshine. If you’re looking for the crisp, refreshing taste of Portugal, then the supermarket’s latest bottle is a worthy addition to your wine cabinet.
The new Mimo Moutinho Vinho Verde offers an “exciting” sparkling twist on the viral green wine trend from the sunnier country. Available to buy in stores now, a 75cl bottle of this wine will set you back just £6.99.
Essentially a hybrid of wine and fizz, the supermarket’s latest addition is already a huge hit with Sam Caporn, also known as The Mistress of Wine. According to the expert, it is “ideal for those seeking a lighter alternative to traditional sparkling wines.”
Praising it as more flavourful than prosecco, Sam said of Aldi’s wine: “Offering fresh flavours similar to that of Prosecco but more so, it offers a unique and exciting twist on a beloved Portuguese classic. Perfect if you are feeling a bit fizzed out after the festive season but still crave something refreshing and flavourful.”
The term ‘green wine’ refers to the tipple’s youthful, fruity character. It originated in landscape of the Minho region in North Eastern Portugal, where the cooler climate “contributes to the wine’s elegance and zestiness, and its blend of indigenous Portuguese white grape varieties results in a complex and delightful flavour profile.”
It’s not the first time Aldi has launched a hybrid bottle based on the latest wine trend. Last summer, the budget grocer surprised orange wine fans with the Specially Selected Rosorange Rosé.
The refreshing tipple, which cost £9.99 for a 75cl, combined the personality of orange wine with the softness of a rose. With orange wine being popular last summer, Aldi was the first UK supermarket to offer the blend of two wines that proved a huge hit with shoppers.
Meanwhile, it’s not just the new Portuguese wine that has landed in stores, as Aldi is also bringing back another popular fizz to get ready for summer – the Specially Selected Sparkling Ribolla Gialla and it costs just £6.99 for a 75cl.
Initially launched in 2022, this Italian fizz offers a variety of variety of refreshing notes for warmer days. In fact, it’s another bottle loved by Sam Caporn, who said that it it like “sipping on sunshine.”
The new Mimo Moutinho Vinho Verde (75cl) and Specially Selected Sparkling Ribolla Gialla (75cl) are avaiilable to buy in Aldi stores nationwide for £6.99 each.
