A body has been pulled from a Scots canal as cops cordon off a famous chip shop in their probe.

Emergency service workers rushed to the Forth and Clyde Canal in Clydebank at around 8.55am this morning after receiving a report of concern for a person in the water, near McMonagles fish and chip boat. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service assisted officers and the body of a man was recovered from the canal.

The man’s death is currently being treated as “unexplained” as police enquiries into the tragedy continue.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8.55am on Friday, 31 January, we received a report of a concern for a person in the water in the Argyll Road area of Clydebank.

Emergency services attended and the body of a man was recovered. The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”

The force cordoned off the area from Clydebank Shopping Centre and along the canal front from the boat.

McMonagles notified customers on social media that they have been forced to close because of the incident but that it had nothing to do with them.

It read: “There has been and incident next to the boat. Although it doesn’t involve us we have been asked to close by the police and our staff sent home. We will try keep our customers and staff updated as much as possible.”
