A dog walker was caught carrying a machete on an East Kilbride street.

Hamilton Sheriff Court heard police officers found the weapon inside Scott Allan’s shorts.

Allan, 40, of Kirktonholme Gardens, East Kilbride, admitted having a machete without reasonable excuse in Burncrooks Avenue on May 17.

Lewis Devoy, prosecuting, said: “Around 7.15pm police officers were asked to attend after an anonymous report of a male possibly in possession of a knife.

“They found the accused staggering on the pavement with a small dog that was unleashed.

“The officers noted he was intoxicated. A large black handle was protruding from the waistband of his shorts and they recovered a machete.

“Allan had minor grazing and a lump above his eye but provided no information regarding that. He made no reply when charged.”

Sentence was deferred until next month for background reports and Allan had his bail continued.

Sheriff John Speir told him: “The custodial threshold has been passed. You have previous convictions that are concerning.

“It’s no trifling matter to be running around the streets of a residential area with a lethal weapon like this.”
