(Gray News) – Two of the victims of the American Airlines plane crash in Washington were youth figure skaters.
The Delaware News Journal confirmed that youth ice dancing partners Angela Yang and Sean Kay were on the fateful flight back from the US Figure Skating Championships and National Development Camp in Wichita, Kansas.
They were with their coach Alexandr Kirsanov.
Angela made two Instagram posts about the Wichita competition just days before her death.
In one post, she shared numerous photos of her and Sean, writing in a caption: “It was a lot of fun watching all the skaters at Kansas! I had a lot of fun sitting with my friends watching amazing skaters! I wish I would watch it all over again!”
In a second post, Angela shared more photos from the Wichita camp, writing: “Had so so much fun at camp!!! I’m really gonna miss my friends and all the great coaches! I can’t wait for next year!”
Angela and Sean won first place at a U.S. Ice Dance competition in November, which was their first finals competition together. TMZ posted the video of their gold medal performance.
The American Airlines flight from Wichita collided with an Army helicopter while preparing to land at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Washington, D.C.
The collision sent both plummeting into the frigid waters of the Potomac River and killed everyone on board both aircrafts.
Officials said 60 passengers and four crew members were aboard the American Airlines flight, and three soldiers were in the helicopter.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
