Nathan Aspinall apologised for a horrific game after sharing the emotions of struggling Cameron Menzies.

The Scottish star was deflated and dejected as he was sent spinning out of the World Darts Masters to the sound of more constant taunting from English fans. Menzies took a pounding from punters from the outset with the typical chants of “Scotland get battered everywhere they go” brought out the minute he hit the stage and continued throughout the majority of the match.

The Ayrshire ace had struggled in a similar situation at the Ally Pally with concern over the illness of his father Ricky also badly affecting him and the unsympathetic hordes cranked up the volume and regularity. The Scot attempted to play along in the opening stages, but lost his way during the game and Aspinall sensed the emotions coming out of his opponent who appeared a beaten man even before his opponent’s final winning shot.

Menzies took to social media in the aftermath of the match to say “I just can’t do it on the stage n it sucks.”

He was offered supportive words of the stage at the end by Aspinall who later said: “All I can do is apologise to the people who had to sit through 25 minutes of that. It was very tough. I’ve shown my character and my resilience. It was one of the toughest games I’ve ever played.

“I think the pace of the game and the emotion that was on that stage. I’m trying to be really positive at the moment. I’m really good mates with Cammy, but he’s so expressive on the stage.

“He showed every single little emotion. I felt like I got dragged into that and, overall, it was a horrific game of darts. Last night I was positive and I tried to play that game in the same way, but Cammy was struggling. I was struggling.

“Cameron showed me a lot of emotion on the stage. The emotion that I normally show is being positive, but I I felt like I was being very negative throughout the game, but, listen, I’m in the quarter final in the first major of the year. I ain’t going to feel too sorry for myself. I’m in the quarter-finals of the Masters and I am going back to the hotel to get a nice sleep in.”
