“Little House on the Prairie” star Melissa Gilbert is pushing back on Megyn Kelly’s “woke” criticism regarding a forthcoming reboot of the TV classic.
In response to this week’s announcement that Netflix is planning to “reimagine” the 50-year-old series that launched Gilbert’s career, the former Fox News personality blasted the streamer for its new ideas on the show set in the American West during the late 1800s.
“Netflix, if you wokeify ‘Little House on the Prairie’ I will make it my singular mission to absolutely ruin your project,” tweeted Kelly, who was famously fired from her talk show in 2018 after suggesting it was OK for white people to wear blackface on Halloween.
Gilbert, who played central character Laura Ingalls Wilder in the original series, shot back at Kelly’s commentary.
“Ummm…watch the original again. TV doesn’t get too much more ‘woke’ than we did,” Gilbert replied on Meta’s Threads. “We tackled: racism, addiction, nativism, antisemitism, misogyny, rape, spousal abuse and every other ‘woke’ topic you can think of. Thank you very much.”
The official logline for the reboot reads: “Part hopeful family drama, part epic survival tale and part origin story of the American West, this fresh adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s iconic semi-autobiographical ‘Little House’ books offers a kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier.”
There has been no word on whether Gilbert, currently starring in the Off-Broadway play “Still,” is attached to the reboot.
