Repair works for a burst water main affecting parts of Glasgow’s Southside, including Shawlands and Strathbungo, are still underway after teams worked through the night to address the problem.

Scottish Water provided an update on Sunday (February 2) morning, confirming their crew is working tirelessly to repair a hefty 27 inch main on Pollokshaw Road, close to Maxwell Road. The disruption began Saturday (February 1), with hopes that it will be resolved by around 10am.

The incident resulted in residents across G41, G42, G43, and G44 experiencing interruptions in their water supply. Pollokshaw Road has been shut down as repairs persist.

Efforts have ensured water has been redirected around the network so that service could resume for all customers, though water pressure may not yet be at its usual level.

Further adjustments are being implemented within the network to help amplify water pressure and fully restore standard services, reports Glasgow Live.

Those who have asked for bottled water due to the outage will receive a call verifying that their main supply is back to normal. Additionally, anyone noticing their water appears murky has been instructed to let their kitchen cold water tap run at a moderate flow until it becomes clear.

A Scottish Water spokesperson said: “A road closure is in place, please allow extra time for journeys through this area and take care while following all traffic management signage.”

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this issue and thank affected customers for their patience and understanding while we work to resolve the matter.”
