SEATTLE — The 29-year-old woman who was arrested in connection to the death of her teenage son Thursday is being held on $3 million bail in King County Jail.
The woman, who has not been formally charged, made her first court appearance on Friday. King County prosecutors anticipate receiving a case referral from police next week for a charging decision.
Just after 2 p.m. on Jan. 30, the woman called 911 to report she got into an altercation with her son and he was unresponsive. The woman said she was spanking him with an extension cord and “it went to far,” according to a statement of probable cause.
When crews from the Seattle Police Department and Seattle Fire arrived to the victim’s residence in the 4000 block of 14th Avenue South, they found the 14-year-old boy unresponsive. He was transported to Harborview Medical Center where he later died.
After being read her rights, the woman told a police officer her son did not complete his chores and she became angry, according to the probable cause statement. She said she told him to remove his clothing and struck him with an extension cord. At one point, she said she shoved her son against a wall – his head struck the wall and he went limp.
The woman told police she continued to beat her son for about an hour. She eventually stopped when he became unresponsive.
She waited about five minutes before calling 911.
