Sky is gearing up for a big month, with major updates on the horizon. The satellite TV giant has already teased the launch of something “smarter, brighter and better than ever” on February 11. Now, millions of customers have another upgrade to look forward to.
Sky has confirmed that its popular NOW streaming service is getting a refresh, with the company promising changes that will “enhance the viewing experience” for households across the country, Mirror reports.
The revamp comes as NOW transitions to a new platform powered by NBCUniversal technology. Alongside a fresh new look, Sky says the upgrade will make it easier and faster for viewers to access their favorite content.
Providing further insight, Carli Kerr, Managing Director of NOW & Sky Content, stated: “Migrating to NBCU’s Global Streaming Platform means NOW members will benefit from the ongoing delivery of customer features that enhance the viewing experience and leverage the latest technologies and innovations across the platform.”
Despite the shift to a new platform, NOW will maintain its existing branding, and there will be no changes to its lineup of shows, films, and sports. However, Sky is touting the transition as a way to offer users a “world-class streaming experience.”
Here’s what NOW users can expect from the upcoming upgrades set to roll out next month:
- New content rails, including Top 10 lists, along with improved search functionality for a smoother browsing experience.
- Sports Members will benefit from curated collections housing SkySports+ streams, making it easier to access events like The Miami Open tennis tournament.
- Sky promises a more seamless way to dive into buzzworthy shows, such as The Day of the Jackal and The White Lotus.
- Families will gain more control and variety with the introduction of Kids profiles, offering over 10,000 ad-free episodes of award-winning children’s content, including Sky Kids Ready Eddie Go! and Boomerang’s What’s New Scooby-Doo.
For those unfamiliar, NOW is a flexible streaming service that delivers content via the web, eliminating the need for a satellite dish. It offers short six-month contracts, with the added convenience of paying month-to-month, allowing users to cancel anytime.
Viewers can also customize their experience by selecting from Sports, Cinema, and Entertainment memberships, each available at different price points. The new design and features will gradually roll out to devices starting February 18, so stay tuned for updates.
