Celtic have opened talks with Crystal Palace over a loan deal for Jeffrey Schlupp.

The Hoops want to bring in the former Ghana international for the second half of the season. Celtic have table an offer and are pushing to get the deal over the line – and the the 32-year-old is keen on the move north, for the chance to go for silverware and to play in the Champions League.

The Hoops are on the look-out for cover at left-back with Kieran Tierney not arriving at Arsenal until the end of the current Premiership campaign. The search has been intensified with Greg Taylor currently the only left-back option at Celtic Park following the end of Alex Valle’s loan. Schlupp has played has played left-back, central midfield and on the wing over the years since his move from Leicester in 2017.

The 32-year-old is out of contract with the London club in the summer and the Scottish champions have made a loan offer with a deal “close” to being agreed. It comes with Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia remaining a live options following the collapse of a move to Benfica earlier in the window – with the Manchester Evening News reporting that he is still keen to leave Old Trafford this month.

Celtic had been keen on the Netherlands international as a potential loan option to help fill the void on the left side of their backline. It is claimed that Malacia’s camp frustrated by the demands being placed on clubs interested in taking the player on loan.

United are said to be looking for a loan fee and some of Malacia’s wages to be covered in the package – which is said to have put off potential suitors. However, the 25-year-old appears keen to force a temporary exit before the deadline.
