Rangers have knocked back a cash offer for Ridvan Yilmaz from the Turkish defender’s former club Besiktas.

The Istanbul outfit had hoped to lure the 23-year-old home after lodging a €1million loan offer that came with a €3million obligation-to-buy clause. But it was rejected by Ibrox chiefs after boss Philippe Clement made clear the left-back remained key to his plans. Record Sport revealed earlier today that the player is happy in Glasgow.

And it has been reported in Turkish media that Yilmaz was unhappy with the offer tabled by his former employers. Yilmaz joined Gio van Bronckhorst’s Gers side in the summer of 2022. He was signed for an initial £3.4m, while add-ons could have seen the final fee rise north of £5m. His time in Glasgow has been beset by injuries but he has impressed Clement lately. Yilmaz sat out Sunday’s 4-0 win over Ross County but Clement is determined to keep hold of a player whose versatility has seen him plug a number of gaps in the injury-hit Rangers line-up lately.

Speaking on Sunday, Clement said: “He’s injured. We want to keep all our players that perform well. We can only let players go if we can replace them with better players, so I don’t expect that in the case of Ridvan.

“You never know with others, but if that’s the case, you need to be replaced by at least the same level. That’s what we agreed.”
