MOBILE, Ala. (WALA/Gray News) – A man was arrested in Alabama after police say he led them on a low-speed chase in a small, stolen construction vehicle.

People who saw the bright orange track skid loader with police hot on its tail said it was a bizarre sight.

“That’s not something you see every day– that was definitely crazy,” Scott Stockton said.

Authorities said the track loader, which had been reported stolen, was used to try to hit someone. The vehicle had been on and off the roadway.

When police tried to stop the skid loader, the driver fled and headed west on I-10 near U.S. 90 before getting off at an exit.

Officials said the driver of the small construction vehicle intentionally hit a police vehicle, causing significant damage. The driver also tried to ram other police vehicles and personnel, they said.

Officers fired shots and the driver of the track loader was taken into custody. He was taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries.

An investigation remains ongoing.
