The owners of a family-owned convenience store in Law made it a hat-trick of wins when they scooped yet another award.
Nads Store, run by husband and wife team Nadeem and Fareha, made it three-in-a-row when their business was named Convenience Retailer of the Year 2024 at the Scottish Asian & Business Awards.
The corner shop in the village’s Station Road, took the title of Community Retailer of the Year in both 2022 and 2023, and last year the couple joked that they might have to up their game if they wanted to go for the hat-trick.
The family moved from Newcastle to Law around 13 years ago but there’s been nothing unlucky about it, they love the place and are very much at the heart of the community.
Their shop featured a few years back on television show Corner Shop Cook-off.
Nad and his son Abdullah attended the awards ceremony in December where they were presented with the 2024 award.
Fareha said: “They didn’t have a Community Retailer award this year, but the Convenience Retailer of the Year is bigger, I would say.
“My sister’s husband’s business was also in the same category and was runner-up.
The family have made Law their home since moving to Lanarkshire and are now part of the fabric.
Fareha added: “We’re part of the community here so it really is another win for them.
“People call Nad Super Mario because of his moustache, so this year at Halloween he dressed up as Mario and was handing out goody bags.
“There was a competition for the best costume, with parents joining in too. The community voted for the top three winners who received prizes
“We’ve also recently started Snappy Shopper deliveries. We’ re always trying to think of things that could help people in the community who might not be able to get out and about as they use to.
“My daughter was married last July, the customers have all seen her grow up here since she went to primary school in Law.
“We let customers know that the wedding was on a Sunday and the shop was shut, everyone turned out in the street to see her on her wedding day.”
