Thomas Muller has warned his Bayern Munich teammates not to underestimate Celtic and insists it will be a career highlight for him to play at Parkhead.
The Hoops face the German giants next week and Bayern are overwhelming favourites to qualify after avoiding Manchester City in the draw. Muller, 35, played against Celtic in 2017 and opened the scoring in a 3-0 win at the Allianz Arena, but didn’t play in the return leg in Glasgow due to injury.
And, in his column in the German media, Muller – who has a personal medal haul of 12 Bundesliga titles, two Champions Leagues and a World Cup – demanded respect for the Scottish champions. He said: “The draw has given us Celtic. Anyone who underestimates the Scots has never seen them at Celtic Park.
“The atmosphere is amazing – it will be a real highlight for me. I am really looking forward to the game. Obviously, we wanted to get straight into the top eight in the Champions League. That was our clear goal. Unfortunately, we missed that.
“We are now looking forward and Celtic in the play-offs are waiting. We have to deliver. And if we do, after that, either Bayer Leverkusen or Atletico Madrid will be next for us. So put your beer on ice! February will definitely be an exciting month for football.”
