PRINCETON W.Va. – Leadership at WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital are hoping to get a better understanding of the biggest health needs in our community through the use of a new survey.

The community health needs assessment is done by the hospital every few years and it’s used to create new services as well as to see what health problems the community is facing at any given time.

“Things change, what might have been a priority ten years ago or five years ago may not be as important to the community because maybe we’ve met that need. Maybe we’re providing enough of those services and all of a sudden something else rises to the top. That’s why we need to get this ongoing feedback,” said Karen Bowling, president and CEO for the hospital.

Bowling says in the past the feedback has been used to plan the hospital’s new cancer center and cardiac catheterization lab.

She says they serve people primarily in a ten county area in both West Virginia and Virginia. Adding that the hospital wants a variety of people to fill out the survey.

“We want all age groups. It’s very important we get a survey that has all age groups. What we’ve seen sometimes is there’s a trend of certain age groups filling out the information,” said Bowling. “So we’re really just getting a piece of the population’s information. So we want to make sure anyone over the age of 18 is filling out the survey and giving us the information.”

Responses gathered are confidential. You can take the survey here.
