Coronation Street fans are on the edge of their seats following last night’s dramatic episode of the ITV soap.

Viewers were gripped as the Platt family home went up in flames, with the future of various cobbles residents left hanging in the balance.

Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) is one of the characters who caught up in the drama – after she was knocked unconscious by Abi Webster (Sally Carman) in the house just before it was set alight by a mystery arsonist.

Abi had been hallucinating and was confronting Toyah about reporting her to social services. As Abi began to see her dead son Seb (Harry Visinoni) she panicked and pushed Toyah, who then hit her head on the counter and was left unconscious.

Now, as fans await the next instalment of Corrie, they’re speculating what could have happened to some of those most at risk.

Corrie has been teasing the fire and the possible suspects for a while and now fans are desperate to know the fate of those caught up in the drama.

Here’s what we know so far

The blaze was started by a mystery person who was seen posting a rag through the letterbox of the Platt’s house, and some lit matches. Sally could then be heard commenting that she could smell burning from the house next door. At the same time, Nick was in the Bistro celebrating Sarah’s birthday with the rest of his clan, and was wondering where Toyah was when Sally burst in.

After the Platt’s rushed to the scene, Nick and Shona tried to get into the house via the back door, where they found Toyah unconscious.

As Nick carried Tony out to safety, the door slammed shut and left Max still trapped inside. As Shona caught her breath to tell David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) that Max was still trapped, the house exploded…

Do Max and Toyah die?

Spoilers for next week don’t give the game away but we will see the families of both Toyah and Max awaiting news of their fate. And fans do know that Max – who suffered the full brunt of the explosion and suffered smoke inhalation – will be leaving Coronation Street after actor Paddy Bever confirmed his departure.

He said previously: “After much reflection and in an incredibly difficult decision, I have chosen to step away from Max, and Coronation Street, to explore new opportunities. I have been surrounded by such kindness and support every step of the way. It’s been a great privilege to contribute to the legacy of such a well-loved and iconic show. This chapter has been unforgettable and while I look forward to what lies ahead, I will treasure these memories.”

There’s been a huge cast cull of late over on Corrie, but Georgia Taylor appears to be staying put for the moment, which could suggest she will survive the blaze.

Toyah had a pulse at the end of the episode and was pulled clear of the house before it exploded.

Viewers will be hoping for a happily ever after ending for Max and Lauren, so time will tell if that’s the case.

Meanwhile, some Corrie fans are convinced that Toyah will be the one who doesn’t survive/

“Toyah shouldn’t be killed off, they have the wrong sister #corrie,” urged one fan on X, formerly Twitter.

“Poor Toyah! She doesn’t deserve this she has a good heart hoping she can make it out of there safe! Abi look what you have caused! #Corrie,” said another.

Corrie bosses shared some exclusive behind the scenes footage of filming after last night’s episode hit screens, and reminded viewers to tune in for a second instalment of the special episode tonight at 8pm. But they’re keeping tight-lipped so you’ll need to tune in for yourselves to find out what happens…
