A flood alert has been issued for after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for rain.

Heavy rainfall has affected the area, which covers most of Lanarkshire, last night through to this afternoon, with as much as 60mm expected to fall over higher ground.

The Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) say flooding to low-lying land and roads is possible due to surface water and river flooding.

A yellow weather warning for rain has been issued by the Met Office, which came into effect at 9pm last night and is due to last until 1pm this afternoon.

SEPA says it will “continue to monitor the situation” and further updates will appear if the situation changes.

People are being advised to “remain vigilant” and to “take actions” which help protect yourself and your property.

The warning reads: “Heavy rain will affect the area on Monday evening through until Tuesday morning. Flooding to low-lying land and roads is possible due to surface water and river flooding.

“Remain vigilant and remember, it is your responsibility to take actions which help protect yourself and your property.”
