Coronation Street fans were left on the edge of their seats tonight as they fear a double exit might be on the cards. In tonight’s episode, viewers watched in horror as the Platt’s house was engulfed in flames.

The fire was sparked by a feud between David Platt and Harvey Gaskell over criminal funds, which left Sarah concerned that her birthday gathering could escalate the situation. David excused himself from the party to try and make some money with the help of a former inmate and friend.

Meanwhile, Toyah Battersby went to the house to ask the children to leave as Sam was also present. Later, Abi arrived at the house and confronted Toyah for reporting her to social services.

A heated argument ensued, resulting in Abi having a panic attack and striking Toyah, leaving her unconscious. The situation took a turn for the worse when an unknown person threw a lit rag through the letterbox, setting the house ablaze with Toyah trapped inside.

Nick rushed into the burning house to rescue her, followed by Shona and Max who also attempted to save anyone trapped inside. Lily managed to escape unharmed, but both Toyah and Max appeared to be in danger as the episode ended, reports the Mirror.

Will they both survive?

We know that Max will be leaving Coronation Street after actor Paddy Bever confirmed his departure.

He told The Mirror: “After much reflection and in an incredibly difficult decision, I have chosen to step away from Max, and Coronation Street, to explore new opportunities. I have been surrounded by such kindness and support every step of the way. It’s been a great privilege to contribute to the legacy of such a well-loved and iconic show. This chapter has been unforgettable and while I look forward to what lies ahead, I will treasure these memories.”

When the news of the fire broke, speculations among fans ignited over who could be responsible. One fan theory suggested: “David told Sarah, Shona and Max about burning the house down for insurance and then had the secret meeting with the thug. We are meant to believe David set up the fire himself, just had someone else start it. At the point David said maybe he wasn’t joking. Max had a look on his face like he could see the benefits of the idea.”

Another added: “It left me wondering if the fire starter will actually be Max, who then by some twist of soap fate gets injured or worse in his own fire. I know Paddy is leaving, but I could see him surviving, with burn scars, and deciding to live away from the street for a bit. That way any death would be a “shock” because we all suspect it will be Max who dies.”

Is Max behind the inferno and could he possibly perish in the blaze he allegedly set?

Time will reveal all.
