A mum has allegedly spanked her son to death with an extension cord because he didn’t finish his chores.
The 29-year-old woman from Seattle, Washington, USA is claimed to have become “angry” and told the 14-year-old it’s “butt cutting time” before giving the beating last Thursday, January 28 – although she has not yet been formally charged. Police say the teen was ordered to stand before the woman beat him for around an hour and to the point that he “became unresponsive”, reports the Mirror.
It is said that she then waited for five minutes to see if would recover before calling 911 to report the incident. A call was made to police at 2.17pm and the attending officers found the boy suffering from numerous injuries. The Seattle Fire Department also attended and provided emergency medical aid to the boy, who was rushed to a local medical centre in critical condition.
“Despite all life-saving efforts, he was pronounced deceased,” police officials said in the January 30 press release, reported the local ABC affiliate KOMO. “The victim’s 29-year-old mother was arrested for investigation of homicide.”
The arrest report states: “(The boy) did not complete his chores and she was angry.” The woman allegedly “ordered” the 14-year-old to remove his clothing as she went to get the extension cord after the teen didn’t finish his tasks, the Seattle Police Department reports.
“(The mother) told him it was butt cutting time,” the report alleges. “She shoved him against the wall, causing him to strike head, go limp and fall to the floor.” The unnamed woman refused to appear in court for her first hearing, it is reported.
Her bail was set at $3 million (£2.4 million) despite attempts from her public defender to argue for her release. “I know of the seriousness of these facts, but this also involves a mother losing her son and significant trauma she is experiencing from that,” attorney Zelena Jones told Judge Jill Klinge.
“I’d also argue there would be additional trauma on top of that if she is incarcerated. Given her limited history, the fact it appears she cooperated with law enforcement, and the fact that she has very limited resources, she should be released.” She is being held at the King County Jail in downtown Seattle.
