CELINA, Tenn. (WSMV/Gray News) – A high school principal and his wife died in a “tragic accident” over the weekend in Tennessee.
Deputies found Jackson County High School principal Dr. Max Petett and his wife, Tracey, had drowned while spending the weekend in a houseboat at the Dale Hollow Marina, according to Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
Their bodies were found on the other side of the lake across from the marina.
The couple’s dog was found on the houseboat they were staying in.
An official cause of death will be determined after the medical examiner performs autopsies. Foul play is not suspected in their deaths, according to authorities.
The school district said it was a “tragic accident.”
“Dr. Petett was more than a leader, he was a mentor, a friend, and a champion for our students and staff. His dedication, kindness, and unwavering commitment to our school will never be forgotten,” the district posted on Facebook.
