Richard Osman has opened up on being rushed to hospital in the “worst pain ever” for emergency surgery. The former Pointless star said he’d had “quite the week” after “waking up in pain”.

After rushing to hospital, Osman revealed doctors told him he was suffering from kidney stones and he underwent surgery.

He revealed the ordeal on Tuesday’s The Rest is Entertainment podcast as he said: “I’ve had quite the week of it. I woke up the other night in pain and I had a kidney stone.

‘It is the single most painful thing that has ever happened to me. The doctors kept saying it’s more painful than childhood but I’m not sure I can buy that.

‘It was unbelievably painful but thank you to everyone at Charing Cross Hospital who were so great. I was having liquid morphine and it didn’t touch the sides.

‘Then I had an operation and they took it out. So I have the absolute joy of not being in pain.”

The NHS states that one in ten people are affected by kidney stones, with those aged between 30 and 60 being most at risk. Stones can often pass naturally but for some people, surgery is required.

Richard said medics have advised him to up his fluid intake as he recovers, which can prevent future stones.

He added: ‘That I can do, no major lifestyle changes, just drink more water.’
