Having naturally long lashes is something that many people aspire to, but often the only option is to fake the illusion with mascara or some falsies.
And while there are plenty of eyelash serums on the market that promise to create those long and luscious lashes fast, they often don’t come cheap.
This is where using natural ingredients could be an effective and affordable tool for your self-care routine. And according to experts, there’s one kitchen staple that can work overnight to build those enviable lashes that you’ve always wanted.
Saffron Hughes, makeup artist at FalseEyelashes.co.uk, has shared her cost-effective hack for longer lashes which costs less than 1p per application.
She said: “Many people spend a fortune on eyelash serums and treatments, but the secret to luscious lashes might be hiding in your kitchen cupboard.
“Olive or coconut oil can be incredibly beneficial for eyelash health and growth, and the best part is, it’s astonishingly affordable.”
Based on current market prices, with a 1L bottle of olive oil costing approximately £5.50 from Asda, each 0.1ml application amounts to just £0.00055 – less than half a penny.
For those applying the treatment twice a week, the monthly cost comes to less than 5p, making it one of the most budget-friendly beauty treatments available.
Saffron said: “These oils are rich in nourishing fatty acids that can work wonders for your lashes. They moisturise and condition the lashes, preventing brittleness and breakage. Additionally, they can strengthen the lash hair shaft and protect against environmental damage.”
For those interested in trying this budget-friendly beauty hack, Saffron has explained the simple application method.
Start by thoroughly cleansing your face and removing all eye makeup. Then, dip a clean mascara wand or cotton bud into a few drops of your chosen oil.
Gently brush the oil onto your lashes from root to tip, being careful not to get any in your eyes. Leave it on overnight for maximum absorption, and rinse off in the morning.
For best results, Saffron recommends applying this treatment two to three times a week. “Consistency is key,” she said. “Give it at least four to eight weeks to see noticeable improvements. Remember, everyone’s lashes are different, so results may vary.”
