Legendary Australian rock band AC/DC are set to play their first Scotland show in 10 years in 2025.

The legendary rockers have announced a European stadium tour, which will see them play 12 dates across 10 countries. As part of their Power Up tour, they will play a one-off concert at Edinburgh Murrayfield on August 21.

As reported by the Daily Record, AC/DC have Scottish roots despite being an Australian band. The group was formed by Scottish brothers Malcolm and Angus Young, with Malcolm sadly passing away in 2017.

Although it is Edinburgh that AC/DC will play at this August, the brothers were actually born in Glasgow. Meanwhile, former lead vocalist of the band Bon Scott was also Scottish.

Scott also sadly died in 1980, at just 33 years old. Before moving to Australia, where he joined the band in 1974, he spent his childhood in the small Angus town of Kirriemuir.

Best known for being the birthplace and resting place of Peter Pan creator J. M. Barrie, Kirriemuir features a touching tribute to Bon Scott. The AC/DC frontman is memorialised with a life-sized statue.

The bronze figure depicts Scott with a microphone in one hand and bagpipes in the other. It was officially unveiled in 2016 by former AC/DC bass player Mark Evans.

If you want to see the statue for yourself before watching AC/DC play at Murrayfield this summer, it can be found on Bellies Brae road into Kirriemuir. It is located near a car park, so is easily accessible.

The statue isn’t the only way that Kirriemuir honours Bon Scott, with a plaque to his memory standing in Cumberland Close. Meanwhile, the town also hosts the yearly BonFest to celebrate his legacy.

Taking place each May, the appropriately named music festival is all about honouring Scott’s memory and impact. Each year, musicians from across the globe journey to Kirriemuir to perform AC/DC covers and pay respect to their idol.

This year, BonFest will take place between May 2 and May 4. The festival’s main venue will be a large tent with professionally built stage, sound rig, and lighting system, which can fit up to 1,800 concertgoers.

The idea for the bronze statue commemorating Bon Scott actually originated at BonFest. Funded via a crowdfunding campaign, the £45,000 sculpture was revealed at the festival’s 10th anniversary.

More information about the Bon Scott statue and BonFest can be found on the Visit Angus website.
