WASHINGTON — Famed golfer Tiger Woods announced Tuesday that his mother, Kultida Woods, had died. She was 78.
In a post on social media, Woods called his mother “a force of nature all her own,” and said she was his biggest fan.
“It is with heartfelt sadness that I want to share that my dear mother, Kultida Woods, passed away early this morning,” Woods wrote. “My Mom was a force of nature all her own, her spirit was simply undeniable. She was quick with the needle and a laugh. She was my biggest fan, greatest supporter, without her none of my personal achievements would have been possible. She was loved by so many, but especially by her two grandchildren, Sam and Charlie. Thank you all for your support, prayers and privacy at this difficult time for me and my family. Love you Mom.”

According to reporting by Newsweek, Kultida Woods was born in Thailand but lived in the U.S. for most of her life.
She met her husband, Earl, during the Vietnam War while he was deployed in Thailand. When he returned to the U.S., he brought her along and the pair settled in California.
Tiger Woods’ south Asian heritage from his mother’s side was a primary reason the golfer referred to himself as “Cablinasian” instead of African-American.
Tiger Woods is widely regarded as one of the greatest golfers of all time and is one of the most famous athletes of the 21st century, with numerous golf titles and records under his belt. He is currently tied for first in PGA Tour wins, and ranks second in wins at men’s major championships.
