DALLAS — Mavs fans really aren’t messing around with this Luka Doncic trade.
Groups of fans gathered over the weekend to set up a memorial at the Dirk statue, which was torn down by Monday. One fan has started a GoFundMe to raise funds and buy billboards in the area expressing their displeasure with general manager Nico Harrison and the Adelson family. A Dallas brewery started a “sell the team” beer.
And some fans are demanding their money back. Social media was buzzing Tuesday about fans asking to cancel their season tickets and whether or not the team would provide refunds for the remaining games on the home schedule.
WFAA reached out to the Mavericks about potential refunds for fans and also if there will be any ticket pricing for season ticket holders next season, to which the team said:
“Regarding tickets, no determination has been made about season ticket pricing for the 2025-26 Season. Season ticket members will hear from their reps over the next few weeks.
Regarding refunds, we value every season ticket member relationship and reps are available to take calls from members with any concerns or questions.“
So, no across-the-board refund from the Mavericks — not that we know of.
However, we did hear from at least one season ticket holder who asked for a ticket cancellation and will be getting at least a partial refund, according to an email correspondence between the ticket holder and a team employee.
“I was absolutely appalled,” ticket holder Adam Emerson told WFAA of his reaction to the Luka Doncic trade news.
Emerson explained that he is a lifelong Mavs fan born and raised in DFW, and said he’s had his season tickets a the American Airlines Center for five Mavericks seasons now.
He said he reached out to the Mavericks late Saturday night mere minutes after the trade news broke to cancel his season ticket membership. A Mavericks representative responded to that correspondence asking if there were any way to work out a continuing membership.
Emerson said there wasn’t, and that he successfully was able to get some of his season-long purchase refunded.
“Personally, [the Adelsons] won’t be getting any of my money or time or effort of going to their arena 41 times a year,” Emerson told WFAA.
Emerson said he will always be a Mavericks fan, and that he will never root against them.
Still, when asked if he had a message for the Adelson family, Emerson had a simple message: “Sell the team. Go back home. We don’t want you here.”
