Quizzes, lectures and children’s Gaelic football will be among the amazing attractions at Coatbridge’s annual St Patrick’s Day Festival celebrations.

The festivities will culminate with the traditional family street festival, which attracts thousands of revellers from across the globe, on March 15.

The overall programme runs from March 3-15 and there will also be a chance for people to trace their Irish ancestors during a genealogy event at St Patrick’s Hall’s Mayo Suite at 7.30pm on March 3, with free entry.

One of the organisers of the festival told Lanarkshire Live: “This is always one of the biggest highlights of the year in Coatbridge and we attract, and welcome, people from all over Monklands, Lanarkshire and beyond.

“As well as our big family street festival event in Coatbridge town centre, there will be opportunities to attend other annual festival favourites.

“These include an Irish quiz, annual lecture, discussion, a Father Ted quiz and children’s Gaelic football.

“This year we will also have a presentation by genealogist Chris Paton on tracing your Irish ancestors.”

The family street festival on March 15 will run from 11.15am to 3.30pm on the town’s Main Street.

A full list of events, dates and timings, and how to obtain tickets where appropriate, will be posted on the committee’s Facebook page.
