A month on since landing in stores, crisp aficionados are still baffled over the true flavour of Pringles’ newest offering.

The beloved snack brand released a ‘Mystery Flavour’ wrapped in Super Mario packaging at the tail end of 2024, sparking widespread speculation among fans. A snapshot of the enigmatic silver can caused a stir on Reddit this Wednesday (February 5), fuelling fresh debate amongst consumers over the mystery crisps‘ taste.

“Okay, so what flavour actually are these?” queried a user on the forum. An avalanche of guesses ensued, with one Brit asserting: “Apparently its pizza flavour.

“Pringles haven’t said, but loads of people said it tastes like pizza.” Another chimed in: “Grabbed a tin the other day, tastes like Paprika and Texas barbecue at the start then gets really spicy, it’s alright if you like spicy things.”

Another admitted to feeling confused: “I bought these and at first me and the kids thought prawn but then the spice kicked in and we couldn’t place the flavour for toffee.” Another speculated: “They are sort of tomatoey, with a little tingle.

“Probably pizza/pasta if you had to put it in a category.” While another suggested: “Looking at the ingredients list it’s like the pepperoni pizza flavour.

“It has paprika and cheese so that’s my best guess.” One critic was less enthusiastic, proclaiming: “By far the worst flavour yet.” Food lovers have until May to deduce the flavour themselves, reports the Mirror.

Why are there Super Mario Mystery flavour Pringles?

Pringles announced a delightfully retro campaign celebrating its tie-up with 40-year gaming legend Super Mario. The brand stated: “Pringles, the leading gaming snack, has today launched a new, nostalgia-powered campaign rooted in 90s gaming culture, to celebrate its partnership with 40 year old gaming icon Super Mario.”

As part of this collaboration, gamers will find Mario, Luigi, and their companions gracing Pringles cans in flavours like Original, Salt and Vinegar, Texas BBQ, and Sour Cream and Onion. The new cans will be on shelves of all major supermarkets from mid-January through May.

Moreover, Pringles introduced the exclusive ‘mystery flavour’ in a special silver can adorned with one of the Super Mario universe’s famous mystery blocks, complete with a question mark. Customers who guess the flavour correctly could bag themselves a fabulous trip to New York City.
