Travis Kelce is getting backlash from Taylor Swift fans after his warm response to a question about President Donald Trump attending Super Bowl LIX on Sunday.
After the Kansas City Chiefs tight end was asked how he felt about Trump attending the big game and he said it is “awesome” and that “It’s a great honor.”
“I think you know, no matter who the president is, I know I’m excited because it’s the biggest game of my life, you know,” he told reporters at the pre-Super Bowl press conference on Wednesday. “And having the president there — it’s the best country in the world — and that’s pretty cool.”
When clips of the moment started circulating on social media, Swifties weren’t exactly thrilled with the “Karma” singer’s boyfriend, considering President Trump has publicly criticized Swift on multiple occasions. The Grammy winner has been open with her unfavorable opinions about the president, too.

After the songwriter endorsed former vice-president Kamala Harris in the 2024 election, Trump told Fox and Friends he was “not a fan.” The 78-year old POTUS even went as far as to proclaim “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” in a Truth Social post last September.
Swifties naturally had a lot to say online about Kelce’s seemingly positive comments about the president. One user on X wrote, “Travis deserves any backlash he gets for that trump answer idgaf.”
“Ugh, this is such a disappointing answer! Especially after how Trump has treated his girlfriend in the past…” another user said on TikTok.
One fan called Kelce “spineless” while another says his response was a missed opportunity. “A great honor?? Who is he kidding? He missed a chance to speak out for everyone being harmed by this administration.”
Some even turned on Kelce’s team replying, “Yuck , let’s go eagles,” while another user added, “I hope they lose.”
Swift has been clear about her stance against Trump, even when she was told taking a stand opposing him would cost her half of her fan base.
“I don’t care if they write that,” she said in her 2020 Miss Americana documentary. “I need to be on the right side of history.”
